What can we at "Cressbrook" do for you?
Cressbrook rams have a long breeding history of fine wool genetics.
- Founded in 1954 on pure Merryville blood.
- During the early 70's a small infusion of finer Peppin blood was introduced to increase clean fleece weight and iron-out some conformation problems inherent in the stud at that time
- In recent years poll genetics from Billandri, Center Plus WA, Ella Matta and Alfoxton have been trialled.
Cressbrook rams are run under commercial conditions.
- Situated in the New England Tablelands of NSW, is just 16 kms from Armidale.
- The New England experiences four distinct seasons, so our sheep must cope with September lambing, with frost, winds and occasional snow; a high summer rainfall to test their ability to resist fly-strike; and long winters when feed is at a minimum.
Cressbrook rams provide you with an opportunity to invest in a "finer" future.
- We maintain extensive records and can provide average measurement figures for our environment.
- The past two years, adult (3 years plus) fleece line fibre diameter has been 16.8 micron and mature breeding ewes have cut an average of 5.0kg with a yield average of 78% for fleece wools.
- Fleeceline staple length averages 90mm for adult sheep with 12 months growth.
- Our goal is to keep reducing fibre diameter whilst achieving moderate gains in fleece weight, staple strength and body weight. We will achieve this by using the merino select 14% + SS index.
The Cressbrook ram you choose will be capable of service, and able to produce quality semen.
- All rams are scored for traits such as : Scrotal circumference (minimum 28cm), tone and sheath;
- Cressbrook rams are presented for sale with untrimmed feet so you can better assess this trait.
- Feet conformation is scored from 1 to 4 (1 being best) and all rams with a foot score of 4 (poorly conformed feet with or without other abnormalities are culled).
- The Cressbrook flock is free of intermediate and virulant footrot.
Cressbrook rams will save you money and time, and meet increasing industry demands for chemical standards.
- Weather Resistance of our rams is considered important and scores are taken at pre-hogget shearing, up until sale time.
- This allows our clients to select sheep suitable to their own environment.
- No jetting of sheep has occured in the past 25 years.
Cressbrook has a low incidence of halo hair, and as our micron decreases, birth coat scores improve.
- Birth Coat is a prediction of future "blow-out" .
Cressbrook rams are measured for worm resistance, this important trait is used as a selection tool when sires are chosen for retention.
Cressbrook provides additional comments in Sale Catalogue so there is no risk you will overlook anything in the heat of the auction sale.
- Classer's and Veterinarian's comments, such as "Eye Pigment", "Smut" or "? Pasterns" are listed in our catalogue.
Cressbrook ram "presentation" is geared towards long-term impact on client's flocks, rather than on visual impact.

- They will have passed through a rigorous selection procedure, and have been raised under commercial conditions.
